WHAT TO DO IN THE 24 HOURS AFTER YOUR INTERVIEW
You’ve prepared, dressed the part, and walked out of the room feeling like you gave it your best shot. But the interview isn’t quite over the moment you leave the building. What you do in the next 24 hours can genuinely influence whether you get the call back.
SEND A THANK-YOU EMAIL – SAME DAY
A short, genuine thank-you email sent within 6–8 hours (or the next morning at the latest) shows good manners and keeps you front of mind while the hiring manager is still comparing candidates. Keep it brief: thank them for their time, mention one specific thing you discussed that stood out to you, and reconfirm your interest in the role.
WRITE DOWN WHAT WAS DISCUSSED
While it’s still fresh, jot down the questions you were asked, how you answered them, and anything you wish you’d said differently. This is useful for two reasons: it helps you prepare better for your next interview, and if there’s a second round with this company, you’ll remember exactly what was already covered.
DO NOT GO QUIET ON YOUR OTHER APPLICATIONS
It’s tempting to pause your job search the moment an interview feels like it went well. Don’t. Recruitment timelines are unpredictable and out of your control – keep applying and keep other conversations moving until you have a signed offer in hand.
BE PATIENT, BUT NOT SILENT
If you were given a timeframe for feedback, respect it. If that date passes with no response, a polite follow-up email is completely reasonable – it shows continued interest, not desperation. What you should avoid is calling repeatedly or messaging the interviewer on personal social media.
REFLECT, DON’T SPIRAL
It is natural to replay the interview in your head and second-guess every answer. Give yourself permission to reflect honestly – without spiralling into worst-case thinking. Whatever the outcome, every interview is practice that makes the next one easier.
Remember: a hiring decision often comes down to factors entirely outside your control – budget changes, an internal candidate, timing. Don’t take a “no” as a verdict on your worth. There is always another opportunity on the way.
