Are you making any of the following mistakes applying for work?
When your CV states the following:
- Pays attention to detail – then sending your application without a subject line or email cover letter. Or calling in response to a job advert you cannot remember the job title or requirements of.
- Respectful of others – but your online comments are disrespectful, racist or critical. Or you do not pitch for, or bother to cancel, an interview you will no longer be attending.
- Problem-solver – cannot upload the app for a virtual interview, or make a plan to attend the interview.
- Flexible / will do whatever it takes – your attitude is you will only work your own hours, only within 5km’s of your home, no overtime or weekend work, and you refuse to stand in at reception when asked to help out.
- Energetic – answers the phone having just woken up, or answers as if your whole world is falling apart.
- Positive attitude – all you discuss is how hard life has been and you are full of excuses.
- Good listener – keep interrupting the hiring manager, or assume you know the rest of the question and start answering without letting the interviewer finish.
