Quick Checklist Before Sending Your CV Out Today
Checklist for details required on CV:
- Valid and most recent contact details.
- Area you are residing in (you do not have to give your exact address).
- Nationality and ethnicity.
- Date of birth.
- 5–7 key duties per company.
- Valid reasons for leaving each company.
- Valid employment dates for each company.
- Contactable references.
Important things to remember when applying:
- Double check that you have the correct contact details.
- Introduce yourself on the cover email and clearly state the position you are applying for.
- Re-read the requirements needed to perform the role. If you do not meet the requirements, you are wasting time and money applying for it.
Do not give up hope! Be safe out there.
Online Courses – Excel Academy

How to Start Your Own Business – by Msizi Ndlovu (Founder and CEO at BossoTechno Inc.)
- Go online to the website of CIPC and register a new company for R175 (registration R125 and the name R50).
- Go to SARS and do a tax clearance for free (book an appointment to avoid waiting in line).
- Open a business bank account – most banks have “starter” accounts with monthly fees less than R500.
- Go to your nearest Seda and ask them to do a business plan for you, for free, plus other training that might be relevant to your field.
- Go online and register on the CSD, for free.
- Go to your municipality and ask them to register you on their database as a supplier, for free.
- Go to your nearest NYDA and attend their financial management short course for a minimum of 5 weeks (once a week), for free.
- Apply for NYDA funding for free – they can give you equipment worth up to R50,000 that you don’t pay back.
- Hire people and register for COIDA, and get a Letter of Good Standing from the Department of Labour.
- Professionalise your business with logos, letterhead, a business email, a website and a landline.
- Start an innovative business that is needed by people.
- Watch two YouTube videos every day.

How to Get Started With Your Job Search
Sometimes the hardest thing to do is to make that first step. So here are some tips to help you get started with your job search:
Ask yourself some key questions (to get a clearer idea of what you’re really looking for): What kind of organisation do you want to work for? What criteria must your new position meet? What constraints do you have to take into account? What will be acceptable to you, or not, in your job offer?
Understand what you have to offer a future employer: with any job search, knowing what you have to offer is key. Think about what makes you unique and your full set of capabilities, and how best to utilise this in your next role. Target your next roles to match this.
Set yourself some goals: don’t just let things happen at any old pace. Identify your daily, medium-term and long-term goals and take them seriously. Make sure that they are achievable and that they feel manageable. Give yourself something to aim for in order to stay motivated and to ensure that you make good progress in your job search.
Get re-acquainted with the job market: whether you’ve been in your current role for a long time or not, each time you go back into the job market, it’s a good idea to spend time getting re-acquainted with the market. Get to know what’s going on in your industry from a job search and recruitment perspective. Explore what platforms might aid your job search, e.g. LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Indeed. Understand how you want to interact with these platforms and how they fit into your own job search plan.
